Are you permed or natural?
I have natural hair and permed hair on the front the sides and the back of my hair and the middle of it is just natural. This is simply because i wear wigs so I'm always blending or trying to suit it to the hair I'm wearing so it is just easier to perm the outside. Originally i have been natural i haven't relaxed my hair for a long time i only did it last week but thats only because of the hair I'm wearing.
Why did you go natural?
So I've been natural ...... let me think. I think the the thing is up until i was 10 cause my mum was someone that didn't like afro hair so i would literally have to perm my hair all the time. So from the age of 11 hats when i decided that i don't want to perm my hair simply because i had braids or something like that and that was a distraction from the relaxing and how i used to style my hair. Ever since i hadn't relaxed my hair and it is only recently i permed my hair simply because how i style my hair and it will only be the edges.
What is your favourite protective hair style?
It has to be wigs. I love wigs I live, breath, shit wigs. No but i love wigs i think i have gotten to the point where i have perfected wigs were low key i want to have my own wig styling ..SOMETHING because i love styling wigs. I just find it pleasurable and yeah WIGS WIGS WIGS everyone.
Do you do your hair yourself or do you get it done professionally?
I do my hair my self. I've only ever had it done once by someone else which was my cousin and thats when i had long twist. Other then that i do my own hair because i love doing it and for me its just easier i like to spend time with my hair, get to know it and abuse it but yeah i do my own hair.
How do you maintain your natural hair and protective hair ?
No when it comes to my hair I do not care for it i am so bad its just there. Literally can't remember the last time i combed it like it was so matte and i am one of those I'm proper african so my hair is just bush like disrespectful kind of hair were if you were to put a comb in it would break. I don't own combs i only own brushes but yeah i just wash it and that is it and let it dry naturally. When it comes to my protective style again I'm like the worse like with my wigs i just stuff it in a bag or hang it on a coat hanger. Thats me maintaining them because i think i have gotten to the point where i like abusing my hair/ my wigs simply because i get a better result from them because if its new it looks like a wig if its used it looks natural . I like to create an illusion of it looking natural. For example the hair I'm wearing was dead straight and it had a fringe so i was like F*** it
- Plated it
- Dipped it in hot water
- Brushed the hell out of it
- Left it in a suit case for about 1 week or 2
- Hair sprayed it
- Put it back in the suit case
- put it on my head cut it in half
- Sewed it in
- Brushed it out
- Did first 2 steps again and its done
I brushed it out again because i didn't want the curls in it and i wanted it more bushy like lion babe. You wouldn't think this was straight hair so thats what i mean that i like to abuse my hair because the end result is the result i want.
What are your staple hair products?
- Blue magic
- Pink Do Gro
- Indian oil
Im so bad i don't really use a lot in my hair i don't really care.
Funniest hair experience ?
Right okay, I went to like a posh white school in a white area so you never really had like black people finessing their hair black hair. So for me this is back when i used to wear weave and omg listen I used to have this full fringe but it would be gappy but it wouldn't be tonged so it looked like a fringe with a bit of curve it was the ones that is flat on your forehead. The weave would be sewn in the parting and closing was peak and looked like a bob and you just look like your storing drugs in their and it was at that time i was going through my me rock phase. I thought i was the shit i would back comb it and have like Amy Winehouse bee hive but then there would be little strands of weave thats still straight but i was going for that rock star look because all the white kids are doing it and i thought i looked legit. Just Don't do it kids.
What are your hair aspirations?
I want to do everything, Everything! No I think for me I'm going through a phase where I've been looking at african hair styles and different illustration from like ancient times because I'm into like old school stuff. So for me i like bringing back old school stuff and re branding it to a way more personal to me and suits me. Right now I'm kind of going through the whole braiding process because i have never really done braiding only really braided my hair about 2 times so i want to experiment with braiding and do different styles with it. I also have this dream and goal of bringing back the hair that was around when i was young for example when girls used to do hair gel (which people are now is being cultural appropriated in fashion magazines.. stop doing it if your watching ) but yeah the whole gel thing that FKA twigs does but more towards the UK style. Don't really know how to explain it but like the youth in the UK in the early 2000's. When they used to put like shoe laces in your hair and dummies like that kind of era where everything was fun, bright and people experimented with there hair and black people were using their natural hair and styling it to there personalities. I feel like now a lot of black people wear weaves and stuff or they are doing braids but then when it comes to styling their own hair there is like a good handful of style or protective style that people with natural hair do and i feel like we need to branch out more because we black folk are creatives.
